Governor Radda inaugurated the Katsina Community Watch Corps in October 2023 to complement conventional security agencies in the fight against banditry. Members are recruited from the communities they protect, so they know the terrain and can pass on timely intelligence.
The first batch of 1,456 members graduated and was deployed to the most affected local government areas. A second intake of 550 recruits was drawn from 10 LGAs.
The state presents the Corps as part of a shift from purely military tactics to a community-centred approach that combines security operations with dialogue, rehabilitation of repentant offenders and poverty reduction.
The anniversary magazine reports 1,466 personnel recruited in the first phase and deployed to eight high-risk LGAs, followed by 550 operatives covering ten more vulnerable areas. They work alongside 1,500 vigilantes and 200 civilian hunters, and a Special Adviser on the Corps oversees operations, logistics and community feedback.
