Commissioning of the Katsina Sustainable Platform for Agriculture (KASPA)
Speech by the Governor
As prepared for delivery. The words spoken on the day may differ slightly.
For too long, agriculture in Nigeria has been a story of effort without efficiency, of policy without precision, and of potential without prosperity. We have poured resources into the earth, but not always with the wisdom to harvest transformation. We have spoken of food security, yet allowed data gaps to blind our decisions. We have celebrated the farmer, but often failed to equip them with the tools of the 21st century.
Today, we turn a decisive page. Today, we launch not just a platform but a paradigm shift. The Katsina Sustainable Platform for Agriculture (KASPA) is more than software or servers; it is the digital nervous system of a new agricultural order one that is intelligent, integrated, and inclusive.
KASPA is our answer to the age-old disconnect between the farmer in the field and the policymaker in the office. It is a bridge that carries real-time data on soil health, weather patterns, input needs, market prices, and yield forecasts directly into the hands of those who need it most. Through KASPA, we move from guesswork to guidance, from scattered interventions to strategic impact.
This administration has already taken bold strides:
- We have revitalized our extension services, placing trained agronomists back in our villages;
- We have distributed over 20,000 metric tons of fertilizer to support our dry-season farming;
- We have invested in mechanization hubs to reduce drudgery and increase productivity;
- And we have forged partnerships with national institutions and private investors to breathe new life into our rural economy.
But we recognize a fundamental truth. No amount of spending can substitute for smart systems. Subsidies alone cannot sustain transformation. What we need and what KASPA delivers is sustainable architecture a living, learning ecosystem that grows with our farmers and adapts with our climate.
KASPA will do three transformative things:
- First, it empowers the farmer. Every registered farmer will receive personalized e-extension advice tailored to their crop, their soil, and their season delivered straight to their mobile phone. No longer will they rely on rumor or outdated practices. They will farm with knowledge, not just with hope.
- Second, it sharpens governance. For the first time, our agricultural decisions will be driven by real-time intelligence, not political convenience. We will know exactly where inputs are needed, where yields are falling, and where markets are emerging. This is evidence-based agriculture transparent, accountable, and results-oriented.
- Third, it unlocks private investment. When agribusinesses see reliable data, traceable supply chains, and a digitally connected farmer base, they will invest with confidence. KASPA turns Katsina into a bankable agricultural ecosystem attractive to processors, exporters, and innovators.
To our farmers across the 34 Local Government Areas: KASPA is yours. This dry season alone, we will onboard one million farmers onto this platform. Every future intervention from seeds to storage, from credit to markets will flow through KASPA. You are not just beneficiaries; you are co-architects of Katsina’s agricultural future.
And to our youth: this is your moment. KASPA creates vast opportunities in agri-tech, logistics, data analytics, and digital extension. Your skills are not just welcome, they are essential. The future of farming is digital, and you are its pioneers.
Your Excellency, Mr. Vice President, your presence here today is deeply symbolic. You have championed both agricultural revival and technological innovation at the highest levels of national leadership. By commissioning KASPA, you affirm that Katsina is ready to lead by example.
We do not seek to be just another state with a digital platform. We seek to be a national model, a proof point that when governance meets technology and data meets diligence, even the most traditional sectors can be reborn.
Let this day mark the end of fragmented efforts and the beginning of unified action. Let KASPA be the seed from which a new era of prosperity, productivity, and pride in Katsina’s agriculture will grow.
Thank you, and may the Almighty Allah continue to bless and guide us all.
