The World Bank supports the Nigeria for Women Programme in three LGAs (Katsina, Daura and Funtua), with ₦500 million in state counterpart funding. Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe said in February 2026 that the state has paid an additional ₦4 billion to extend it to the other 31 LGAs, and appropriated a further ₦4 billion in the 2026 budget.
The three World Bank-supported LGAs will have 10,000 Women Affinity Groups and each of the other 31 LGAs 1,000, for 41,000 groups statewide. Members are being linked to the state health insurance scheme.
In July 2026 the governor said more than 57,094 women in the three pilot LGAs had collectively saved about ₦349 million through their affinity groups.
