EU–UNESCO project technical session

Speech by the Governor

As prepared for delivery. The words spoken on the day may differ slightly.

It is with great pleasure and a deep sense of appreciation that I welcome you all to this important State Lunch and Technical Session of the EU-UNESCO Project in Katsina State. Today marks yet another milestone in our collective efforts to strengthen education, skills development, and sustainable development in our dear state.

I extend my sincere gratitude to the European Union (EU) and UNESCO for their unwavering commitment to supporting education and social development initiatives across Nigeria. Your partnership continues to make a meaningful impact in empowering our people and transforming communities.

Education is the foundation of progress, and we recognize that no society can thrive without an educated and empowered population. The EU-UNESCO Project aligns perfectly with our administration’s vision for inclusive and quality education, particularly in ensuring that vulnerable groups, including girls, persons with disabilities, and out-of-school children, have access to learning opportunities.

This initiative comes at a crucial time when we are intensifying efforts to enhance literacy, digital education, technical skills training, and community engagement in the education sector. Through this project, we seek to:

  • Expand access to quality education for all, particularly in rural and underserved areas.
  • Improve teacher training and curriculum development to meet global standards.
  • Strengthen technical and vocational education to equip our youth with practical skills for self-reliance.
  • Leverage technology in education to bridge learning gaps and enhance digital literacy.

As a government, we are fully committed to supporting and sustaining the objectives of the EU-UNESCO Project. We will continue to provide the necessary policy backing education, especially our State Government commitment in terms of resources and institutional support to ensure the successful implementation of this program as well as the recent declaration on free and compulsory basic education across the State.

We are also working on strengthening collaborations with stakeholders, communities, and the private sector to further expand the reach and impact of this initiative. Our goal is to create an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable education system that empowers our people and drives socio-economic growth.

Let me once again express my profound appreciation to the European Union, UNESCO, and all development partners for their dedication to advancing education and human capital development in Katsina State. Your contributions will leave a lasting legacy in our communities.

I encourage all stakeholders here today to actively engage in the technical session, share innovative ideas, and propose practical solutions that will further enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of this project.

Together, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a brighter future for our children and youth, ensuring that education remains the key driver of progress and prosperity in Katsina State.

On this note, I officially declare this State Lunch and Technical Session of the EU-UNESCO Project open and look forward to a productive and insightful discussion.

Thank you, and May Allah (SWT) bless Katsina State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
