Distribution of motorcycles for routine immunisation

Speech by the Governor

As prepared for delivery. The words spoken on the day may differ slightly.

All praise be to Allah (SWA) who made it possible for us to gather here today for the launching of motorcycles meant to improve routine immunization and other PHC services. Critical issues such as those concerning logistics and supportive supervision can be addressed more effectively using these means of transportation.

Cost-effective primary preventive interventions such as routine immunization services and adequate nutrition are very important, and it is for this reason I have taken my time to come and grace this occasion.

I must say that, this government is very much interested in ensuring optimum coverages of targets for routine immunization and other PHC services in the State. We should not be reporting high cases of vaccine preventable diseases.

I know a lot of effort have been made in the past and I commend you for that, but more must be done because of the obvious need to do more.

The government has prioritized PHC revitalization as a step towards Universal Health Coverage. We intend not only to work towards improving demand and supply for primary health care but also create a favorable working environment within the health system for effective service delivery Insha Allah.

I will emphasis that our focus is quality and equitable distribution of resources so will need everyone within and outside the health sector to do his/her bit towards achieving this. It must be a collaborative response.

I urge health care workers and all stakeholders to make prudent use of these motorcycles, ensure proper maintenance and accountability.

I am calling on traditional leaders, religious leaders and other opinion leaders to continue to mobilize their communities to embrace important health interventions rendered both at health facilities and within the communities. They are all for our own good and the good of our families.

I appreciate the contribution of "Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance" for their support in strengthening our health system, UNICEF, and all other Development partners.

Again, I would like to use this occasion to reinstate our total commitment in strengthening the health sector to meet the yearnings of the Katsina State citizens from this government. Thank you and God bless.
