It is with immense joy and profound gratitude that I welcome you all to this historic event — the Flag-Off Ceremony for the 120 Tree Planting and Landscaping Projects Across Katsina State, in collaboration with the Ahmad Uthman Purelife Foundation and ACRESAL Project Katsina.
Today, we are not just planting trees. We are planting hope. We are planting a future. And we are planting a legacy. This initiative is more than a project. It is a promise, a promise to our children, to our farmers, to our elders, and to the very land that has sustained us for generations.
For too long, Katsina State has faced the harsh realities of climate change, prolonged droughts, desertification, erratic rainfall, and the relentless advance of the Sahara Desert. We have seen our farmlands shrink. Our water sources dry up. Our communities become more vulnerable. But today, we say: No more.
With the support of the Ahmad Uthman Purelife Foundation and ACRESAL, we are launching a bold, state-wide campaign to green our schools, revitalize our landscapes, and restore ecological balance.
This is not charity. This is strategic investment in our environment, our health, and our economy. The goal of this project is clear:
- To plant 120 trees across 120 schools in every Local Government Area of Katsina State.
- To create shaded, green learning environments where students can study in comfort and teachers can teach without the burden of extreme heat.
- To combat climate change by increasing our forest cover, reducing carbon emissions, and improving air quality.
- To inspire a culture of environmental responsibility among our youth, so that they grow up not as victims of nature, but as its guardians.
Every tree planted today will:
- Provide shade for generations of learners
- Absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen
- Reduce soil erosion and improve water retention
- Create habitats for birds and insects
- And serve as a living monument to our commitment to sustainability
I want to express my deepest appreciation to Mr. Ahmad Uthman, the Founder of the Ahmad Uthman Purelife Foundation, for his unwavering vision, generosity, and partnership.
Your Excellency, your foundation has shown that private citizens can be powerful agents of change. You are not just building a foundation but you are building a movement.
And to ACRESAL Project Katsina, thank you for your technical expertise, coordination, and commitment to sustainable development. Your role in ensuring the success of this project is invaluable.
This is what true partnership looks like — government, civil society, and the private sector coming together to build a better Katsina. We chose schools as the focal point of this project because education is the most powerful tool for transformation.
When children learn in shaded classrooms, surrounded by greenery, their concentration improves, their health improves, and their academic performance improves.
Moreover, when they plant trees themselves, they learn about ecology, responsibility, and stewardship. They will carry these lessons into adulthood becoming leaders who understand that development must go hand-in-hand with environmental care. This is not just about planting trees. It is about planting values.
To the students here today: You are the future of Katsina. When you plant this tree, you are not just adding a leaf to the canopy, you are adding a chapter to the story of our state.
Let this be the beginning of a lifelong commitment to protecting our environment.
To the teachers and parents: Be the mentors, the guides, and the role models. Teach your children to love nature, to respect it, and to protect it.
To the local governments and community leaders: Continue to support such initiatives. Let every school, every community center, every village square be a place of greenery and life.
Ladies and Gentlemen, today, we take a small step — but it is a step toward a greener, healthier, and more resilient Katsina.
We are not just planting trees. We are planting hope. We are planting pride. We are planting a future.
And on this day, at this school, in this community, we are sowing the seeds of a new era, an era where development is sustainable, where progress is inclusive, and where every child can learn under the shade of a tree.
Let us all rise to the occasion.
Let us work together.
Let us make Katsina the Green Heart of Northern Nigeria.
Thank you.
