It gives me great pleasure and indeed a deep sense of responsibility to welcome you all to this important event: the Flag-off Ceremony for the Distribution of Irrigation Equipment and Inputs to our dear farmers across Katsina State. Today’s event is not just a distribution exercise; it is a testament to our shared commitment to the people of Katsina State, especially those in our rural communities whose daily efforts put food on our tables.
I understand the challenges our farmers face from erratic rainfall and the rising cost of inputs, to limited access to modern tools and insecurity in some areas. These challenges affect families, communities, and ultimately the stability of our state.
It is for this reason that we have made agriculture and rural development a central pillar of our administration. When I assumed office, I made a promise that government would no longer sit in comfort while our people struggle in silence. That promise gave birth to the Community Development Program (CDP) and its network of Community Level Committees (CLCs) a structure that allows government to reach directly to the people, listen to their needs, and act on their priorities. Through these committees, communities themselves identify what they need most whether it is irrigation support, water, roads, or livelihoods.
We are building governance from the bottom up, where citizens have a voice, a role, and a stake in their own development. The inputs we are distributing today 4,000 irrigation water pumps, 4,000 knapsack sprayers, fertilizer, and herbicides — are part of our comprehensive strategy to promote all-year-round farming and support smallholder farmers in verified irrigation sites across the state.
Our goal is simple:
- To make farming more productive and profitable,
- To reduce poverty and unemployment,
- And to ensure food security for every household in Katsina State.
These tools will empower our farmers to produce more even during the dry season, sustain livelihoods, and strengthen the resilience of rural economies.
I commend the partnership between the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, the Katsina State Irrigation Board, and the Community Development Program (CDP) for working tirelessly to ensure transparency and fairness in the selection of beneficiaries.
Let me emphasize that distribution will only take place in wards with confirmed irrigation sites, as verified by the Irrigation Board to ensure resources are used efficiently and reach genuine farmers.
I have also directed the CDP to take full responsibility for logistics, monitoring, and reporting, so that every single pump, sprayer, and bag of fertilizer is accounted for and properly utilized.
To our farmers these inputs belong to you, but more importantly, they belong to the future of Katsina State. Use them wisely, take care of them, and let them be the tools that lift your families out of hardship.
This government sees you, respects you, and stands with you. Your resilience inspires us to do more every day.
I want to thank all our partners, development agencies, local government chairmen, and field officers for their contributions to this effort.
Your cooperation ensures that this administration’s vision of inclusive governance and people-driven development continues to thrive.
To the entire people of Katsina State, I reaffirm my commitment to serve you with sincerity, compassion, and fairness.
Together, we will make Katsina a model of good governance, productivity, and unity.
