Today, we gather not merely to observe a date on the calendar, but to honor a sacred covenant the enduring debt of gratitude owed by a grateful nation to its brave sons and daughters in uniform.
The 15th of January is more than a day of remembrance; it is a solemn tribute to the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering patriotism of our fallen heroes those who laid down their lives so that Nigeria may live in peace, unity, and dignity. It is also a moment to acknowledge our living veterans and active-duty personnel, whose daily commitment continues to shield our nation from threats both within and beyond our borders.
In Katsina State, we hold this day with profound reverence. Our soil has known the footsteps of many gallant soldiers, some who returned home as heroes, others whose names now grace memorials, and countless more whose sacrifices remain unspoken but never forgotten. From the trenches of past conflicts to the frontlines of today’s counter-terrorism operations, our armed forces have stood firm.
We are particularly mindful of the ongoing challenges facing our nation including insurgency, banditry, and other forms of insecurity that test our resolve. Yet, even in the face of these trials, our military men and women continue to demonstrate exceptional heroism. In Katsina State, we have witnessed firsthand their dedication: patrolling our rural communities, rescuing hostages, securing our schools, and restoring hope to displaced families. For this, we say thank you.
My administration remains steadfast in supporting our security architecture. We have strengthened collaboration with the various security agencies through intelligence sharing, logistical support, and welfare interventions for service personnel and their families. We will continue to invest in community-based security initiatives and ensure that our veterans are not left behind. Their service did not end when they left the barracks, it lives on in the peace we enjoy today.
To our veterans: your legacy is our foundation. To our active troops: your present sacrifice is our future security. And to the families of the fallen: your loss is our collective sorrow, and your resilience, our inspiration.
Let us remember that true remembrance is not confined to wreaths and silence. It demands an action to build a Nigeria worthy of their sacrifice, a Nigeria where peace is not just declared, but lived; where justice, opportunity, and dignity are guaranteed for all.
As we lay the wreath today, let it symbolize not only our mourning but our renewed commitment to protect the values for which our heroes gave their all.
May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.
May God grant strength to those who serve.
And may God bless Katsina State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Thank you.
